Dan Bawden is president of Legal Eagle Contractors, Co., an award-winning, design-build remodeling and custom home company in Houston, Texas. He is passionate about creating safe and elegant home living environments for all boomers, seniors and physically challenged Americans. He is well-known for founding the Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) program in 2001, when he brought together the AARP and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) as partners in this successful project to help seniors and the physically challenged enjoy their golden years.
As both a remodeler and a practicing attorney doing estate planning for his senior clients, Dan is a champion for those with physical challenges, seniors and baby boomers trying to help their parents age gracefully, safely and independently at home.
He is a passionate advocate for the aging-in-place and universal design movements in this country, and practices what he preaches in his remodeling, design and construction work. Dan has opened the wildly popular Idea Center showroom in Houston, Texas to demonstrate to clients and students numerous unique remodeling ideas, in a working house. He continues to teach CAPS and universal design classes around the country.
Dan is a Graduate Master Builder, Certified Graduate Remodeler, Certified Green Professional and a Certified Aging in Place Specialist. Dan has been voted Texas Remodeler of the Year four times and Houston Remodeler of the Year — twice!
His comments regularly appear in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Money Magazine, Forbes, Consumer Reports, Better Homes & Gardens and more. He has made appearances on HGTV, local TV and is a regular on live call-in home improvement radio shows sharing universal design and aging-in-place design ideas and best practices. In his spare time, Dan also sings and dances in musical theatre productions, is a trumpet player in the Trailer Trash Band, a golfer, underwater photographer and racquetball player.
